Decking & Outdoor Structures

Decks, pergolas, screens and garden joinery built to extend the living space outdoors.

Designed for the site. Built for the long run.

Decking and structures are what turn a garden into an outdoor room. We set deck heights against the interior floor level so the transition feels natural, then detail framing, fixings and screening to last through Melbourne's swing between wet winters and dry summers.

What it brings to the project

  • Level transitions between inside and outside
  • Shade, shelter and privacy where they are needed
  • Usable space on sloping ground
  • Detailing that matches the house rather than fights it

Well suited to

  • Entertaining decks and platforms
  • Pergolas and shade structures
  • Privacy screens and boundary treatments
  • Planters, seating and garden joinery

Materials and landscape elements

Material selection is resolved in context. We consider the home, weather exposure, expected use, maintenance and how each finish will sit beside the planting as the garden matures.

  • Australian hardwood decking
  • Composite decking boards
  • Treated pine and steel framing
  • Batten screening and slatted panels

How we approach the work

01

Position

Height, orientation, sun, shelter and the connection to the house are decided first.

02

Frame

Footings, bearers and joists are built for the span, load and exposure.

03

Finish

Boards, edges, steps, screens and coatings are completed and detailed.

Common questions

Hardwood or composite?

Hardwood has depth and character and needs periodic coating. Composite is more stable and lower maintenance. The right answer depends on exposure, budget and how much upkeep suits you.

Do outdoor structures need a permit?

Some do, depending on size, height, siting and the council. We flag likely requirements before design is locked in.
